1-Gigawatt Facility Development with a 10% Equity Partnership

In a groundbreaking development, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and OpenAI have established a strategic partnership that is poised to reshape the artificial intelligence (AI) hardware landscape. Announced in late 2025, this collaboration involves deploying AMD’s next-gen MI450 accelerators in a 1-gigawatt (GW) data center to support OpenAI’s massive compute needs. This deal also grants OpenAI a 10% equity stake in AMD, creating a unique vendor-partner synergy.

The MI450, utilizing advanced 3nm technology, boasts high memory capacity and delivers approximately 50 PetaFLOPS, making it a formidable rival to NVIDIA’s offerings. The initiative ends NVIDIA’s GPU dominance by diversifying AI hardware supply chains, potentially influencing other companies to follow suit.

The partnership signals a shift toward industrial-scale AI infrastructure, underscoring the escalating energy demands of AI. As they aim for forthcoming innovations, including the MI500 series, this alliance is set to redefine the future of AI computing, emphasizing the importance of strategic collaborations in tech.
