1 in 5 Full-Time U.S. Workers Experience Job Task Replacement by AI; 1 in 12 Have Used AI Agents

As artificial intelligence (AI) evolves, its impact on the future of work is evident. Recent research by Epoch AI reveals that nearly 50% of American adults have engaged with AI in the past week. Alarmingly, 20% of full-time workers report AI has taken over aspects of their jobs. Nicholas Miailhe, an AI policy expert, emphasizes this trend signifies labor market restructuring. Conversely, 15% of employees have adopted new responsibilities thanks to AI, indicating a blend of automation and augmentation, according to Caroline Falkman Olsson. Additionally, one in twelve Americans now uses autonomous AI agents for task completion. While AI enhances efficiency, it also strains electrical and water resources, creating a balancing act between innovation and sustainability. Miailhe warns that the pace of AI replacement surpasses augmentation, urging policymakers to act swiftly to manage this transformative change in the workforce. This research underscores the urgency of addressing AI’s expanding role in our lives.
