The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) is grappling with a surge in AI-assisted cheating during Class 10 Madhyamik exams. Recently, 12 candidates were caught using mobile phones to access AI tools for answers, spurring concerns over group cheating, a novel trend highlighted by President Ramanuj Gangopadhyay. Instances of concealed mobile phones in shoes and toilets, alongside unique cheating tactics like distracting invigilators with dust, have emerged. Consequently, the Board has canceled 31 exams this year due to cheating. A mathematics teacher was suspended for allegedly providing answers during another exam, and investigations continue into incidents of vandalism at exam centers. Strict measures are in place, banning all electronic devices inside examination halls, emphasizing a focus on academic integrity. With 9,71,340 candidates participating this year, the WBBSE aims to uphold standards, ensuring only essential items like admit cards and pens are allowed.
