Workday transformed its approach to delivering machine learning (ML) insights for sales, customer success, and finance by leveraging Databricks Apps. Previously, creating a single internal application took nearly a year due to extensive custom builds and reviews. By utilizing Databricks, Workday reduced this timeframe to mere weeks, successfully launching three AI applications within a year, including the widely used Sales Companion, which now has over 4,500 active users. This session outlines the key architecture and adoption strategies: using Databricks Apps for UI/middleware, integrating MLflow for components, and employing retrieval-augmented workflows for handling unstructured data. With governed access via Unity Catalog and rapid analytics through SQL Serverless, business users can independently access sentiment analysis, forecasting, and KPI insights—eliminating the dependency on data science teams and preventing additional hiring. This streamlined process enhances agility and effectiveness in data-driven decision-making.
