Digg, the revamped link-sharing platform founded by Kevin Rose, has announced significant layoffs as it strives to stabilize. CEO Justin Mezzell confirmed that while the startup is not shutting down, Rose will now dedicate himself full-time to Digg, stepping back from his advisory role at True Ventures. The platform aims to offer an alternative to existing community forums but has struggled with a surge of bot activity, complicating reliable user interaction and content moderation. Mezzell highlighted the challenges posed by automated accounts, acknowledging that this is a widespread internet issue, not just a Digg problem. Despite the setbacks, the company intends to maintain a small team focused on innovating Digg to stand out in a competitive landscape, particularly against rivals like Reddit.
