Meta Attracts Four More AI Researchers from OpenAI

Share

Meta is intensifying its recruitment efforts in the AI sector, recently hiring four researchers from OpenAI: Shengjia Zhao, Shuchao Bi, Jiahui Yu, and Hongyu Ren. This follows previous hires from OpenAI’s Zurich office, signifying Meta’s commitment to strengthening its AI capabilities. The urgency behind these acquisitions is partly due to CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s disappointment over the performance of the newly launched Llama 4 AI models, which did not meet expectations. The recruitment has sparked a competitive exchange between Meta and OpenAI, with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman alleging that Meta is offering signing bonuses as high as $100 million to attract talent. However, Meta’s CTO Andrew Bosworth countered that the actual offers are more nuanced than such bonuses. This back-and-forth illustrates the intense competition as companies vie for leading AI talent in a rapidly evolving landscape.
