A new generation of graduates is finding that AI is altering the job search landscape significantly. With 89% of UK recruiters planning to adopt AI in hiring, applicants like Bhuvana Chilukuri are facing automated CV screenings and AI video interviews, often receiving rejections in under two minutes. This trend is causing candidates to submit an average of 200 applications for just one job offer. Law firm Mishcon de Reya, for example, received 5,000 applications for merely 35 positions, partly due to candidates using AI to craft their submissions. Advocates for AI in hiring argue it minimizes human bias and standardizes decisions; however, critics express concerns that such methods strip candidates of their individuality. Adecco’s CEO, Denis Machuel, stresses the need for a balance between AI and human judgment to mitigate the growing “arms race” in recruitment, ensuring candidates retain some humanity in the process.
