Gartner Forecasts AI Applications Will Power Half of Cybersecurity Solutions

By 2028, Gartner predicts that 50% of enterprise cybersecurity incident response efforts will concentrate on custom-built AI applications. Christopher Mixter, VP Analyst at Gartner, highlights the urgency for security teams to establish processes for handling AI-related incidents, as many AI tools are deployed untested, increasing risk. Cybersecurity leaders are advised to engage early in AI projects to ensure adequate security controls. Additionally, more than 50% of enterprises will adopt AI security platforms to manage risks like data misuse by 2028. As manual compliance processes leave 75% of regulated organizations vulnerable to fines, implementing a systematic risk management approach is essential. By 2030, a significant portion of IT work will involve remediating AI data debt, necessitating collaboration for data security. With geopolitical tensions elevating data risks, organizations will seek cloud security sovereignty. Additionally, by 2028, 70% of CISOs will leverage AI-powered identity visibility tools to minimize risks in identity and access management (IAM).
