iyO Accuses OpenAI/io of Trade Secret Theft

iyO has expanded its lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging that Tang Tan, co-founder of io and a former Apple designer, accessed the company’s confidential designs. This follows a previous trademark dispute over the similarity of their names and potential brand dilution in the AI-powered earpiece market. After OpenAI’s acquisition of io, iyO claimed that its trade secrets were misappropriated, including CAD files and prototypes, which reportedly accelerated io’s product development by nearly a decade. The lawsuit alleges that a former iyO engineer, Dan Sargent, downloaded confidential files and shared them with Tan days before a critical meeting in San Francisco. This filing marks a significant escalation in the ongoing legal battle, challenging the integrity of trade secrets amidst claims of willful infringement. The court’s response to these new allegations remains pending, and further documentation is expected to be made public soon.
