iyO has expanded its lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging that Tang Tan, co-founder of io and a former Apple designer, accessed the company’s confidential designs. This follows a previous trademark dispute over the similarity of their names and potential brand dilution in the AI-powered earpiece market. After OpenAI’s acquisition of io, iyO claimed that its trade secrets were misappropriated, including CAD files and prototypes, which reportedly accelerated io’s product development by nearly a decade. The lawsuit alleges that a former iyO engineer, Dan Sargent, downloaded confidential files and shared them with Tan days before a critical meeting in San Francisco. This filing marks a significant escalation in the ongoing legal battle, challenging the integrity of trade secrets amidst claims of willful infringement.
