Meta has made headlines with its latest AI acquisition, Trapit Bansal, an Indian-origin researcher known for his work at OpenAI. He joins Meta’s Superintelligence team, a strategic move by CEO Mark Zuckerberg to enhance the company’s AI capabilities. Bansal was instrumental in developing OpenAI’s o1 model, collaborating closely with co-founder Ilya Sutskever. His transition to Meta comes amid OpenAI’s evolution towards its o3 model, amidst rising competition from firms like DeepSeek.

Focusing on integrating human intelligence into AI, Meta aims to disrupt the existing market dominated by data-driven companies. Bansal, who holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UMass Amherst and has interned at tech giants like Google and Microsoft, brings substantial expertise. He announced his move on social media and is reportedly part of a high-stakes initiative with compensation packages reaching up to $100 million. Outside work, Bansal maintains a private life in San Francisco with his family and pet dog.
