OpenAI Reports 40% of Revenue from Enterprise AI as Shift Towards ‘Agentic Workflow’ Gains Momentum

OpenAI’s Chief Revenue Officer, Denise Dresser, revealed that enterprise AI agents now account for over 40% of the company’s total revenue, which reached $25 billion annually as of February. OpenAI is incrementally positioning these multi-agent systems as the primary business interface, steering businesses away from basic AI productivity tools. Companies are adopting “teams of agents” that collaborate seamlessly, reducing the need for constant human intervention. The uptake is significant, with business users swelling from 5 million to 9 million in just months. OpenAI’s Codex AI coding agent has also gained over 3 million users rapidly. As firms shift their mindset from “should we use AI?” to “how many agents should we run?”, OpenAI is responding with its enterprise platform, simplifying integration without extensive restructuring. With projections of $85 billion in revenue by 2030, OpenAI’s focus on agents indicates a pivotal transformation in how businesses engage with AI technology.
