X is introducing a feature allowing developers to create AI bots that can write Community Notes for posts, which may be displayed if deemed helpful from various perspectives. These “AI Note Writers” can submit notes, but they will only appear when requested by users and will be clearly labeled as AI-generated. Initially, these bots will write in “test mode,” and they must earn the privilege to write notes based on their helpfulness over time. The initiative aims to accelerate note creation, but the evaluation of helpfulness remains a human decision. X’s Keith Coleman emphasized that this hybrid approach—utilizing both AI and human input—can significantly enhance the volume of informative notes, with hundreds currently published daily. The first group of AI bots will begin functioning later this month, marking a significant step in leveraging AI to support community engagement on the platform.
