Forrester: How Your AI Tools Could Be Compounding Problems

In today’s workplaces, many employees struggle with AI tools like Copilot, leading to decreased productivity. Forrester’s JP Gownder highlights a growing issue where users abandon AI due to failed prompts, opting for traditional methods that, although slower, are familiar. Despite over 80% of companies employing AI, only 16% of workers achieve a high AIQ (Artificial Intelligence Quotient), reflecting inadequate employee preparedness. Notably, only 51% of organizations train non-technical staff on generative AI, with a mere 23% teaching prompt engineering. This gap results in “AI slop,” where poorly generated content clutters inboxes, hampering efficiency. The blame lies with organizations that mistakenly assume employees will autonomously develop necessary AI skills. Leaders must prioritize hands-on, peer-based learning to foster AI literacy, rather than solely relying on formal training modules. Investing in employee skill development is crucial for achieving a significant return on AI investments, emphasizing the need for a human-centric approach in AI integration.
