Germany’s Cyber Agency Sounds Alarm Over US AI Tool

US company Anthropic has introduced “Claude Mythos,” an advanced AI model designed to identify software vulnerabilities. The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) views this development as potentially transformative for cybersecurity. BSI President Claudia Plattner mentioned ongoing discussions with Anthropic to understand the model’s capabilities, noting it has already uncovered thousands of critical weaknesses across major operating systems and web browsers. As AI technology evolves, there are concerns about similar tools being leveraged by cybercriminals, prompting Anthropic to initiate Project Glasswing. This initiative will grant companies like Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft access to Claude Mythos to help detect and resolve security issues. Notably, Anthropic does not intend to release the tool to the public. Plattner expressed that BSI is taking these developments seriously, which could lead to significant changes in the management of security vulnerabilities and implications for national and European cybersecurity.
