SC Judge Emphasizes That AI and Digital Tools Should Not Supersede Judicial Reasoning

During a national conference on ‘Judicial Process Re-engineering and Digital Transformation’ in New Delhi, Supreme Court judge Justice Rajesh Bindal emphasized the importance of using artificial intelligence (AI) and digital tools as supportive instruments rather than substitutes for judicial reasoning. He expressed concerns over open-source platforms that may threaten data confidentiality, highlighting the need for caution in technology integration within the judicial system. The conference, organized by the Supreme Court’s eCommittee and the Department of Justice, featured multiple working sessions covering key technological advancements in the judiciary. Justice J K Maheshwari underscored the necessity for ongoing judicial reforms and technological enhancements to improve justice delivery. Participating judges from various high courts contributed to discussions on the transformative role of technology in judicial processes. The event engaged experts and stakeholders, reflecting a collective effort to innovate the legal landscape while safeguarding the fundamental principles of justice.
