Social platform X is introducing a feature allowing AI bots to create Community Notes for posts. These ‘AI Note Writers’ will generate text that undergoes human vetting, ensuring notes are only published if deemed useful by platform users. This initiative aims to enhance the speed and scale of Community Notes, while community feedback will refine the AI’s capabilities, promoting accuracy and reducing bias. AI-generated notes can be created through xAI’s Grok chatbot or other API-connected tools and will initially only appear upon user request during a pilot program. The notes will be clearly marked, and AI bots will need to demonstrate usefulness to maintain their ability to produce notes, with performance impacting their capabilities over time. The first cohort of AI bots is expected to be introduced later this month.
