Microsoft Phasing Out the Copilot Name in Certain Windows 11 Applications

Microsoft is scaling back the presence of its Copilot AI branding in Windows 11, specifically in the latest Insider version 11.2512.28.0. The familiar Copilot logo has been removed from the Notepad app, which previously featured generative writing tools. Notepad now offers a renamed section called “Writing tools,” maintaining the same AI functionalities, such as prompt-based writing and tone adjustments, but without the Copilot branding. This shift comes after reports of low public approval for AI in the U.S. and ongoing criticism on platforms like Reddit. In addition to Notepad, it appears AI features have been removed from the Snipping Tool, emphasizing Microsoft’s cautious approach to integrating AI across Windows 11. While these changes are currently available only in the Insider version, standard users will need to wait for future updates to experience the revised features. Microsoft has not commented on this notable shift yet.
