Suspect Charged with Attempted Murder and Arson in Attack on Sam Altman’s Home

Man Accused of Attacking OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Faces Serious Charges

Daniel Moreno-Gama, a 20-year-old from Texas, is charged with attempted murder and attempted arson after allegedly throwing an incendiary device at OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s home. He further threatened to “burn down” OpenAI’s San Francisco headquarters, according to an FBI criminal complaint. Authorities reported that Moreno-Gama possessed incendiary devices and a three-part manifesto advocating violence against AI executives. This planned attack is considered a serious threat to public safety, prompting discussions about potential domestic terrorism charges. Both state and federal charges have been filed against him, and the Department of Justice is investigating further. Altman, who shared personal details to discourage violence, emphasized the need for civil discourse in AI debates, asserting that violence has no place in democracy. Moreno-Gama’s arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday, where the District Attorney plans to seek no bail. The FBI continues its investigation at his Texas residence.
