Google has enhanced Google Workspace with the introduction of Gemini-powered “Gems” — customizable AI chatbots now integrated into Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. Previously accessible only through the Gemini app, Gems help users streamline repetitive tasks directly within their preferred tools. These task-specific AI assistants support various activities such as text editing, code writing, crafting sales pitches, and studying. Users can create both pre-made and personalized Gems for tailored assistance. Although custom Gems can’t be created within Docs or Gmail, they are easily set up at gemini.google.com/gems/create. The update supports core Workspace features like @-mentioning and file access, allowing for seamless AI-driven collaboration. Rollout began on July 2, gradually reaching all eligible users, with some experiencing delays beyond 15 days. This integration signifies Google’s commitment to embedding AI functionalities deeper into daily workflows, enhancing efficiency for Workspace users.
