Recent research indicates that AI tools surpass traditional methods by analyzing comprehensive data rather than solely relying on standard ICD-10-CM codes, which often lead to an 8.5% misdiagnosis rate. Dr. Farah Brink, a child abuse pediatrician, emphasizes that AI provides clearer insights, allowing for quicker and more accurate responses to potential abuse incidents. The study evaluated over 3,300 ER visits across seven hospitals, showing that AI reduced error rates significantly—from 14.3% to a mere 1.8%. By identifying unrecognized patterns of harm, especially in non-verbal toddlers, AI enhances doctors’ ability to act promptly.
