Costa Rica Pioneers AI Adoption Among Small Businesses in Latin America

Share

Costa Rica is emerging as a leader in artificial intelligence (AI) adoption among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with about 50% utilizing AI tools like chatbots and supply chain optimization. Despite this progress, only 1% of SME leaders feel their firms have fully mastered AI. Effective scaling hinges on redesigning workflows, yet many high-potential automation processes remain untapped, per Trycore analysis.

Training is a critical barrier; demand for AI-skilled professionals, commanding 25% higher salaries, has surged 3.5 times since 2016. Fortunately, 69% of SMEs intend to invest in AI, focusing on skill-building. AI is transforming job roles rather than eliminating them, enhancing marketing in services and reducing waste in manufacturing.

While challenges persist, such as budget constraints and a shortage of skilled labor, Costa Rica’s tech-savvy workforce and government support position it well for sustained AI growth. Continued investment in tools and training will be vital for long-term success and economic impact.
