Westinghouse Partners with Google Cloud AI to Speed Up US Nuclear Reactor Development and Optimize Operations

Cranberry Township, PA, July 15, 2025 – Westinghouse Electric Company has partnered with Google Cloud to revolutionize nuclear reactor construction and enhance existing plant operations through artificial intelligence (AI). By integrating Westinghouse’s HiVE™ and bertha™ AI solutions with Google Cloud’s advanced technologies, the collaboration aims to streamline the construction of new AP1000® reactors, the only fully licensed, construction-ready modular reactors available in the U.S.

Dan Sumner, Interim CEO of Westinghouse, highlights that this partnership, leveraging 75 years of proprietary nuclear data, enables accelerated deployment of nuclear energy sources. Kyle Jessen from Google Cloud emphasizes the competitive edge AI offers to companies. The collaboration has already demonstrated success with a proof of concept utilizing Westinghouse’s WNEXUS digital platform, enhanced by Google Cloud’s Vertex AI, Gemini, and BigQuery. Together, they aim to optimize the nuclear sector, delivering reliable, cost-effective electricity to homes and businesses.
