OpenAI’s new ChatGPT Agent is an innovative AI designed to handle complex, multi-step tasks. Launched recently, it’s seen as a combination of the company’s past tools, Operator and Deep Research. However, despite its capabilities, users have reported issues with speed, reliability, and glitches. For instance, when tasked with finding vintage lamps on Etsy, the agent took nearly 50 minutes and failed to add items directly to the user’s cart, which indicated a lack of access to personal browsers. Moreover, it cannot handle sensitive financial actions like bank transfers, citing security reasons. While its potential in guiding users through tasks like ordering flowers is promising, it struggles with executing transactions effectively. Overall, while ChatGPT Agent showcases advancements in AI assistance, it currently operates more as a guided assistant than a fully automated execution tool. Future updates will determine its overall effectiveness and reliability.
