On July 1, 2025, a one-day workshop at the University of Birmingham gathered researchers, technologists, and public sector professionals to investigate Large Language Model Multi-Agent Systems (LLM MAS) for enhancing public governance through deliberation, negotiation, and decision-making. LLM MAS merges advanced language models with multiple interactive agents, each representing diverse viewpoints and capable of reasoning. The workshop fostered interdisciplinary collaboration across computer science, social science, public administration, law, and ethics, focusing on practical applications like AI companions for public service workers and simulation tools for social scenarios. Participants emphasized the importance of context and social norms in developing these systems. The Centre for AI in Government is committed to nurturing these innovative ideas and promoting future collaborations.
