Singapore-based tech company Sea Limited has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with American AI firm OpenAI to enhance AI adoption in Southeast Asia. Announced last Friday, the MOU aims to offer advanced AI tools to consumers and small businesses. This collaboration builds on Sea’s Operator launch, emphasizing digital transformation and community upliftment. By merging Sea’s regional expertise with OpenAI’s AI innovations, they plan to identify opportunities in distribution, payments, and commerce, making AI more accessible.
“Forrest Li, CEO of Sea, stated that AI is revolutionizing connectivity and transactions, aligning with their goal to lead in innovation. OpenAI’s Managing Director, Oliver Jay, highlighted Asia’s young, tech-savvy demographic as a fertile ground for AI growth. As the first initiative, Sea’s Shopee will introduce ChatGPT Plus to its loyalty program members during the 8.8 Sales Campaign, providing enhanced customer experiences and setting the stage for further market expansion. Sea’s revenue has surged 29.6% due to robust e-commerce performance.
