Volvo Partners with Gemini AI to Transform into Google’s Mobility Testbed

Volvo will be the first automaker to integrate Google’s Gemini AI, replacing Google Assistant in select models. This new technology was showcased in the Volvo EX90, featuring enhanced conversational capabilities for in-car interactions, such as message drafting, translations, and queries about the vehicle’s manual. Volvo intends to enhance the driving experience by making voice commands more fluid and intuitive, allowing drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. As part of its partnership, Volvo also becomes a reference hardware partner for Google’s Android Automotive development, likely allowing its cars to receive Android updates before others. Although the rollout specifics for Gemini are still pending, Volvo’s commitment to innovative software solutions is evident, especially following its record sales of 763,389 cars in 2024. This move integrates Volvo into the competitive landscape of AI-driven dashboards, alongside other advancements like Apple’s CarPlay Ultra.
