Google Launches Free AI Tools for Students and Commits $1 Billion to Educational Initiatives

Google is offering free access to its advanced AI tools for college students in the U.S. and select countries, alongside a commitment of $1 billion for education and research initiatives. CEO Sundar Pichai announced this initiative on X, highlighting the launch of the Google AI Pro plan for students over 18, which provides expanded access to innovative features like Gemini 2.5, NotebookLM, and Veo3, as well as 2TB of storage. With over 100 universities on board, this initiative aims to enhance AI education and job training through the AI for Education Accelerator. As AI’s role in education expands, this move responds to the declining entry-level job market where listings have dropped by 15%. Companies are increasingly attributing job cuts—over 10,000 directly to AI advancements. By equipping students with essential AI skills, Google seeks to prepare them for evolving workforce demands amidst a competitive technological landscape.
