GoTo and Indosat Unveil Sahabat-AI: A Multilingual Language Model

PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk and Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison unveiled the Sahabat-AI model, featuring 70 billion parameters, which enhances Indonesia’s open-source large language model ecosystem. Building on the initial Sahabat-AI launch in November 2024, the revamped model improves accuracy and introduces a multilingual chat service with strong reasoning capabilities. Patrick Walujo, CEO of GoTo Group, emphasized the model’s role in promoting Indonesia’s digital sovereignty while providing insights for diverse user needs. Sahabat-AI, integrating five local languages alongside international ones, is available through the popular GoPay app, enhancing user engagement. Indosat’s GPU Merdeka supports the model’s infrastructure ensuring compliance with national regulations. Collaborations with local universities and media aim to tailor Sahabat-AI to cultural needs. A structured internship program for students fosters local AI talent, positioning Sahabat-AI as a national innovation and a resource for nurturing Indonesia’s future AI workforce. The model has already gained traction, with over 35,000 downloads.
