The Intensifying Rivalry Between Grok and ChatGPT

Elon Musk is accusing Apple and OpenAI of engaging in anticompetitive practices to inhibit smaller AI companies from competing, specifically targeting his own venture, xAI. The recent lawsuit filed in Texas claims that both companies have colluded to promote ChatGPT as the only generative AI chatbot benefiting from billions of user prompts on iPhones, thereby maintaining a monopoly in the app market. Musk alleges that Apple is manipulating App Store rankings to suppress the visibility of his AI chatbot, Grok. This follows Musk’s public grievances about Apple’s impact on Grok’s launch and market performance. The lawsuit seeks billions in damages and a jury trial, echoing Musk’s previous legal conflicts with OpenAI over alleged betrayals and breaches of contract. Notably, Musk’s relationship with OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, has deteriorated, further fueling the tensions between these high-profile tech figures.
