Researchers at Imperial College Healthcare have developed an advanced AI tool, AIRE-CHB, to enhance ECG analysis and identify patients at risk for heart block, a potentially dangerous heart condition. Backed by the NIHR and the British Heart Foundation, AIRE-CHB utilizes over 1.1 million ECG recordings from 190,000 patients in Boston, achieving an impressive 89% accuracy in detecting heart block compared to the traditional 59% success rate. Dr. Arunashis Sau emphasized the challenge of diagnosing intermittent heart block early, as untreated cases can become severe. AIRE-CHB enables targeted monitoring and timely intervention for high-risk patients. This innovation aligns with broader NHS efforts utilizing AI for heart health, such as the integration of scanners for heart failure management at home, and research into wearable devices for congenital heart disease monitoring. The application of AI-driven technologies is transforming heart health diagnostics and improving patient outcomes across NHS hospitals in England.
