However, the app faced scrutiny, as companion bots have been linked to mental health challenges, leading to concerns about “AI psychosis.” Despite claiming hundreds of thousands of users, Dot only achieved 24,500 downloads on iOS. The founders cited differing visions for the app’s direction as the reason for the shutdown, rather than the ongoing safety debates affecting the AI sector.
