Innovative technologies, such as AI-powered smart glasses and anxiety therapy filter apps, are set to revolutionize mental health support in the UK, as announced by Science Minister Lord Vallance. In response to a 40% surge in NHS mental health support demand since the pandemic, Innovate UK is funding 17 businesses with £3.6 million from the Mindset XR for Digital Mental Health programme. These low-cost, high-impact innovations aim to provide personalized and scalable mental health care, particularly for underserved communities. Over the next 12 to 18 months, projects like smart glasses for depression and interactive games for children will be tested. Baroness Merron emphasized that technology is pivotal in transforming healthcare, making it more accessible and efficient. This initiative aligns with the UK’s commitment to enhance patient care and will ultimately reduce the burden on NHS resources while fostering economic growth.
