Google’s Gemini App Surges Past ChatGPT in Monthly Downloads

According to Similarweb, Google’s Gemini app has surpassed ChatGPT in global Android downloads since late April 2025, achieving over six million weekly installs by late May, while ChatGPT’s downloads fell below three million in the same timeframe. Google’s extensive reach through its search and services likely contributes to Gemini’s success. However, ChatGPT still outperforms Gemini in user engagement, with 42.52% of its users active daily compared to just 4.9% for Gemini, based on global Android usage statistics.
