Google recently increased the query limit for AI Pro subscribers in the Gemini app and indicated similar changes for AI Studio, which allows developers direct access to Gemini and other models. AI Studio has been providing generous free usage limits, with more customizable options than the consumer-focused Gemini app. The move towards an API key-based system for AI Studio has raised concerns among developers about potential costs, as it will require payment for access beyond free usage limits. Although the Gemini API offers a free tier, it does not include access to the 2.5 Pro model available in AI Studio. Google assures that the AI Studio free tier will persist, but many users feel the platform is becoming less accommodating. Future enhancements to the Gemini app and a clearer structure for AI Studio’s offerings are under consideration to balance developer needs with operational demand.
