The Tamil Nadu Schools Programme for AI, Robotics, and Knowledge of Online Tools (TN SPARK) has been launched to train government school students in crucial technological skills. Targeting Classes 6 to 9, the pilot programme is set in 85 schools across Coimbatore district and emphasizes foundational computer science concepts like algorithms, flowcharts, word processing, and data visualization. Supported by bilingual textbooks in English and Tamil, specially trained teachers conduct interactive lessons. Students engage with various digital tools, including text-to-image generation, coding through platforms like Scratch, and online safety practices. Dedicated hi-tech labs equipped with approximately 880 computers provide a hands-on learning environment, significantly increasing student engagement. The curriculum integrates subjects such as science, geography, and languages, aiming to develop digital literacy and problem-solving skills essential for future academic and career pursuits. Full implementation is slated for October, following initial introductory lessons and quarterly exams.
