OpenAI’s recent analysis reveals key insights into ChatGPT’s usage, based on 1.5 million conversations. As of July 2025, ChatGPT boasts over 700 million users exchanging 18 billion messages weekly, predominantly for work-related tasks. Writing comprises 42% of these interactions, especially among management and business users. Surprisingly, the gender gap has closed, with more female users, and nearly half of all users are under 26. The primary discussion topics include practical advice, writing assistance, and information seeking, accounting for 78% of all exchanges. Notably, computer programming queries only make up 4.2% of chats. Furthermore, while perceptions of AI affecting job security persist, personal reflection messages constitute just 1.9%. This showcases a divergence from the romantic interactions seen in AI personality bots on other platforms like CharacterAI and Replika, prompting discussions around ChatGPT’s safety measures and user experience.
