A study comparing generative AI tool usage among university students in Gujarat and Assam reveals notable differences in preferences. Gujarat students predominantly use Grammarly for grammar corrections and Canva for creating visual content, while their counterparts in Assam favor Meta AI and ChatGPT. Despite these differences, around 95% of students in both states have not received formal training in generative AI tools. Conducted among 220 students from various academic departments, the research highlights a general awareness of generative AI, with 96.8% familiar with the tools and 94.5% using them for academic purposes. Many students employ AI for idea generation, homework, and information searches. The study suggests the need for structured training programs and clear guidelines on the ethical use of AI in higher education, emphasizing the enhancement of AI literacy to ensure successful integration into academic curricula.
