Gemini 2.5 Tackles Premier ICPC Challenges at World Finals

Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, revealed that the Gemini 2.5 Deep Think AI secured a gold medal at the prestigious 2025 ICPC World Finals, outperforming many human teams. Competing under official ICPC rules, the AI solved ten out of twelve complex programming problems, including one that stumped all human participants. Demonstrating exceptional algorithmic reasoning, Gemini tackled eight challenges within the first 45 minutes and completed two more in the remaining three hours. Its live and remote participation began ten minutes after human teams, adhering to the same five-hour limit. This groundbreaking achievement stems from reinforcement learning, enabling Gemini to reason, code, and refine solutions based on feedback. Tests suggest Gemini could rival the top 20 human coders from previous ICPC events. For wider accessibility, a lighter version of Gemini 2.5 is available via the Gemini app for Google AI Ultra subscribers, offering advanced problem-solving features tailored for general users.
