Kenyan Student Creates AI Chatbot App to Enhance Livestock Welfare for Farmers

Polycarp Ochieng Orenda, a student at Kisii University in Kenya, has revolutionized agricultural extension services with his innovative AI chatbot app, Aniwise. Aimed at enhancing livestock management, Aniwise provides farmers with a digital assistant that operates offline, making it accessible and affordable. The app’s features include an AI-powered chatbot, real-time disease scanning, and record-keeping functionalities, allowing farmers to diagnose issues and maintain health records efficiently. Early users have reported improved livestock health and productivity, underscoring Aniwise’s impact. Despite initial challenges, including funding constraints, Polycarp’s perseverance led to a successful launch in June 2023. Future developments include veterinary teleconsultations and a marketplace for farm supplies. Polycarp encourages fellow youth to address real agricultural problems with practical solutions. Aniwise is available for download on the Google Play Store, expanding access to farmers eager to improve animal welfare and agricultural productivity in Kenya.
