Rising Trust in Autonomous Agents: Are Businesses Keeping Up with AI Risk Management?

Enterprise buyers are increasingly reliant on AI agents for managing critical operations, with 81% of executives endorsing autonomous systems for crisis management. However, the PagerDuty AI Resilience Survey highlights a concerning disconnect between this confidence and actual capabilities. Despite 96% believing in their ability to prevent AI failures, 84% have already faced AI-related outages. The survey reveals that the rapid shift to AI dependence—74% of companies claim they could not function without it—lacks adequate testing and governance frameworks. Only 39% consistently validate AI-generated code, with significant regional disparities. Many organizations are deploying multiple AI agents without the operational foundations to support them adequately, resulting in a gap between ambition and readiness. As companies increasingly integrate AI, buyers should prioritize operational risk management and establish rigorous governance structures to mitigate potential failures. This cautious approach is essential to avoid significant pitfalls in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
