University of Florida researchers have created Pro-CaRE, an innovative AI-powered tool designed to help students find impactful internships that foster both technical and professional growth. Unlike traditional recommendation engines, Pro-CaRE not only predicts suitable opportunities but also provides detailed explanations for each match. Testing has shown Pro-CaRE accurately accounts for over 72% of learning gains among students. Initially focused on engineering, its applications may extend to various disciplines. Pro-CaRE analyzes individual student profiles—including coursework, major, and self-reported interests—and compares them with peers’ data for personalized, actionable recommendations. It enhances student confidence by providing insights into why certain internships are beneficial, regardless of setting—onsite, hybrid, or remote. This system aims to empower students to make informed decisions about their internships, ensuring alignment with personal and professional aspirations. Spearheaded by experts from the UF College of Education and the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering, Pro-CaRE bridges the gap between student expectations and internship realities.
