Horizon Executive Predicts Cars Will Evolve into Major AI Agents

At the World New Energy Vehicle Congress held on September 28, 2025, Chen Liming, President of Horizon Robotics, emphasized the transformative role of AI in the automotive industry, signaling a shift from hardware-defined to “AI-defined cars.” This new paradigm focuses on “cabin–driving fusion,” integrating intelligent cockpits with autonomous driving systems. Chen identified three critical areas where AI is reshaping the sector: the transition to data-centric software 2.0, advancements in model training enhancing driving safety and autonomy up to Level 4, and evolving industry relationships from linear supply chains to strategic partnerships. He noted that the demand for computing power is increasing, necessitating coordination between vehicles, infrastructure, and cloud systems. Furthermore, Chen highlighted that while some OEMs may pursue full-stack in-house development, the majority will rely on ecosystem partnerships for cost-effectiveness. Crucially, he underscored that safety must remain the foremost priority in all advancements and optimizations.
