Apple Unveils Live Translation for Messages, FaceTime, and Phone at WWDC 25

Share

At WWDC 2025, Apple announced its Live Translation feature for Messages, FaceTime, and Phone calls, leveraging Apple Intelligence to provide real-time language translation. Leslie Ikemoto, Apple’s director of input experience, emphasized that the translation models operate directly on devices, ensuring user privacy. In Messages, translations occur automatically, adapting to users’ preferred languages in both sent and received texts. FaceTime will display live captions, while phone calls allow spoken translations during conversations, enabling seamless dialogue even between non-Apple users. Respondents’ replies are also translated audibly for the caller. Additionally, developers can integrate this functionality into their apps through a new API. However, Apple has not disclosed the number of languages available for this feature.
