OpenAI’s ChatGPT has introduced the Instant Checkout feature, allowing US users to purchase products directly within the chat. Currently, this feature supports Etsy, with plans to expand to Shopify merchants like Glossier, Spanx, and SKIMS. Available for ChatGPT Pro, Plus, and free accounts, Instant Checkout streamlines the buying process. Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke emphasized the collaboration with OpenAI to enhance shopping experiences.
Powered by the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP), this initiative ensures businesses retain control over transactions while AI agents securely assist in purchases. ACP supports various commerce systems, accommodating physical and digital goods, subscriptions, and features like multi-merchant carts. Stripe highlights the importance of trust and security, allowing AI agents to process transactions without exposing customer credentials.
With open-source access under an Apache 2.0 license, businesses can easily integrate ACP with their existing systems, enhancing the customer experience while maintaining brand integrity.
