Google is expanding its Gemini AI assistant to the Android version of Google Docs, previously only available for paid Workspace users on desktop. The integration will feature a new side panel interface, accessible with eligible paid plans, including Google Workspace Business, Enterprise, and education tiers. Users will see a Gemini icon in the Docs interface, which, when tapped, opens a bottom sheet for interaction with the AI chatbot. Gemini can summarize documents, highlight key points, suggest enhancements, and answer questions from the document’s content. It supports over 20 languages, broadening accessibility for international users. However, it lacks some advanced desktop features like “Help me write” and image generation. Additionally, Google is rolling out scheduled actions for the Gemini app, enhancing functionality for users on specific AI subscription plans, further illustrating the gradual deployment of Google’s AI tools across platforms.
