Researchers advocate for an innovative approach to cardiovascular disease (CVD) drug development, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI), omics technologies, and systems biology. A recent review in Frontiers in Science highlights the need for precision medicine to target previously inaccessible disease pathways, tailoring treatments based on individuals’ genetic, molecular, and physiological profiles. Despite advancements in cardiovascular care, high global mortality rates persist due to the heterogeneous nature of CVD. Omics technologies and AI can aid in identifying new drug targets and advancing RNA-based therapies, which may provide superior efficacy over traditional medications. The review underscores the necessity of understanding individual patient variations for effective treatment. To realize the potential of personalized cardiovascular therapies, the authors call for coordinated global efforts, increased investment in research, and fostering partnerships between academia and industry.
