Transforming Telecom: AI-Driven Self-Healing Networks and Enhanced Customer Services with 6G, Says DoT Secretary

At the India Mobile Congress 2025, Telecom Secretary Neeraj Mittal announced that artificial intelligence (AI) will revolutionize telecom networks, making them self-healing and significantly enhancing customer services. He emphasized the government’s commitment to keeping pace with rapid technological advancements alongside the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). As the transition from 5G to 6G approaches, AI’s role will expand, transforming network operations and improving customer interactions through advanced solutions. While acknowledging the benefits of AI, Mittal warned of its potential risks, such as deep fakes and financial fraud, underscoring the need for vigilance and governance. The Department of Telecom has launched an AI-based fraud prevention tool, which has already saved citizens from significant financial losses. Mittal highlighted India’s ambitious $1.25 billion AI mission aimed at fostering innovation and building a secure, inclusive AI ecosystem, while also contributing to global standards through leadership in AI governance.
