AMD Launches New Chips, Partnering with OpenAI, Creator of ChatGPT

At its “Advancing AI” event, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced its next-generation MI400 chips, slated for a 2026 release. The chips have already attracted notable clients, including OpenAI, whose CEO, Sam Altman, praised the remarkable specifications during a joint presentation with AMD’s CEO, Lisa Su. Other significant partners include Meta, xAI, Oracle, Microsoft, Astera Labs, and Marvell Technology. AMD also showcased its AI server rack, Helios, designed to integrate multiple MI400 chips, drawing comparisons to Nvidia’s upcoming Vera Rubin system. Additionally, AMD unveiled its Instinct MI350 Series GPUs, claiming they deliver four times the computing power of their predecessors. Despite the event’s announcements, AMD’s stock fell about 2%, marking nearly a 2% decline for 2025 year-to-date.
