OpenAI Enhances ChatGPT Developer Mode with Complete MCP Support

OpenAI has introduced full Model Context Protocol (MCP) support in ChatGPT, enabling developers to utilize custom connectors for read and write operations within chats. Now in beta under Developer Mode, this feature transforms ChatGPT into a versatile automation hub capable of interfacing with external systems and internal APIs.

Previously limited to data retrieval, ChatGPT can now perform actions like updating Jira tickets and triggering workflows directly through conversation. OpenAI emphasizes caution, as this power requires careful testing of connectors to avoid prompt injection attacks.

MCP connectors can be added via the Settings menu, supporting Server-Sent Events (SSE) and optional OAuth authentication. Developers can define tool preferences and safety restrictions to streamline operations. For any inquiries, developers have engaged in discussions on Reddit, clarifying that remote servers are required for connection.

Available for Pro, Plus, Business, Enterprise, and Education accounts, the feature enhances compatibility with frameworks like LangChain and LlamaIndex, providing extensive automation capabilities.
