Google is set to enhance its Google Maps app by integrating a new AI assistant, Gemini, to replace Google Assistant. Currently, Google Assistant allows users to navigate, set destinations, and communicate hands-free while driving. However, Android Authority reports that Google is undergoing a significant overhaul, planning to fully implement Gemini—its latest virtual assistant launched in 2024. This transition will enable more advanced command recognition, such as changing routes to avoid tolls and highways. Besides navigation, Gemini will answer various queries, similar to its functions on Pixel devices. Users will soon have the option to switch settings to access Gemini’s features in Google Maps, enhancing location-based inquiries like finding nearby coffee shops or local attractions. While there’s no confirmed release date for Gemini’s full rollout, its integration promises to bring more robust capabilities to Google Maps, continuing Google’s commitment to app innovation.
